Singapore Canoe Federation (SCF) will play host to the annual canoe marathon once more on Sunday, 14 January 2018, at the Water Sports Centre, Singapore Sports Hub (WSCSH).
The Singapore Canoe Marathon or SCM as commonly known by many paddlers, is the largest and most important event in the canoeing event calendar. This year’s race is expected to attract some 800 paddlers and spectators.
The SCM features special races - Surfski Single and Outrigger Single, showing off one-of-a-kind crafts during the race event. Kid-In-A-Kayak (KIAK), a programme that was designed to give children a chance to experience paddle sports; will also see children of primary school age racing in a dedicated race category.
The marathon also champions community initiatives with its Canoeing Cares programme. The Para-canoe category will see para-athletes race one another at a grueling distance of 6km.
With a race distance ranging from 6km to 30km, paddlers from all walks of life will get to take in the sights of local landmarks like the Tanjong Rhu Bridge, Merdeka Bridge, Benjamin Sheares Bridge, Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage.
